As a Tier 1 supplier, Bilfinger positions itself as a preferred partner for future nuclear projects.
- Two additional contracts worth around € 400 million: Bilfinger takes over implementation planning, supplier management, procurement, pipeline production and installation work for the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) and Balance of Nuclear Island (BNI)
- Implementation of the orders begins immediately and will continue until 2025
The order volume for Bilfinger’s work on the new Hinkley Point C (HPC) nuclear power plant in England exceeds the half a billion euro mark for the first time. Decisive for the awarding of the orders to Bilfinger were the excellent references of the industrial service provider, the proven high performance in large new construction projects in the nuclear industry as well as the long-standing trustful cooperation with HPC. With the award of the two additional contracts, Bilfinger becomes a Tier 1 supplier for Hinkley Point C. This makes Bilfinger one of the few selected partners who jointly control the project strategically and are among the preferred suppliers for future projects.
In June 2020, Bilfinger received two new, additional framework contracts from HPC for NSSS (Nuclear Steam Supply System) and BNI (Balance of Nuclear Island) with a total volume of around € 400 million. Orders are booked in tranches in the Technologies and Engineering & Maintenance Europe segments. Implementation begins immediately and will continue until 2025. HPC recently commissioned Bilfinger to work on the Balance of Plant (BoP) as well as for design and planning work and waste treatment.
Tom Blades, CEO of Bilfinger: “Exceeding the half a billion euro order volume and our status as a Tier 1 supplier are important milestones for Bilfinger. We are proud to be an integral part of the HPC project and look forward to many more opportunities to work with EDF in the future. ”
Simon Parsons, director of Hinkley Point C’s MEH program, said: “By placing these additional orders, we are expanding our collaboration with Bilfinger again. An important factor for this decision was not only the proven experience and expertise of Bilfinger with large nuclear construction projects, but also their commitment and commitment to a trusting and cooperative partnership. “
The two orders are from Bilfinger UK , Bilfinger Engineering & Technologies Germany and Bilfinger Peters EngineeringFrance implemented. They will take over the execution planning, procurement, supplier management as well as the manufacture and assembly of pipelines and devices for the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS). The NSSS generates the steam that is needed to drive the turbine generator unit and ultimately to generate low-carbon electricity. In addition, Bilfinger takes over the execution planning, the supplier management as well as the procurement and manufacture of pipelines for the Balance of Nuclear Island system. Nuclear Island is located at the heart of the nuclear power plant and includes the reactor, steam generators and primary safety and piping systems.
In February 2020, Bilfinger received an order for the Hinkley Point C balance-of-plant package , which consists of piping systems to support power plant operations. In 2018, EDF selected Bilfinger as one of 15 strategic suppliers for EDF’s Hinkley Point C project and subsequently received orders for design and planning work as well as for waste treatment. The total volume of orders Bilfinger has received for Hinkley Point C to date is around € 500 million.
Hinkley Point C is the first new nuclear power plant to be built in the UK for over 25 years. It is said to supply around 6 million households with low-carbon electricity, create thousands of jobs and bring lasting positive effects to the UK economy.
