Stena Renewable invests SEK 1.7 billion in Åby-Alebo Wind Park in the municipality of Mönsterås.The wind farm will significantly reduce climate emissions and will give SEK 360,000 annually to the local associations when it is started up.A total of 36 works will be built, making it the largest wind farm in southern Sweden.

– It is windy in the area and the wind farm will produce large amounts of renewable electricity. This means that we can create extensive climate benefits for many years to come, says Peter Zachrisson, CEO of Stena Renewable.

The wind farm consists of 36 wind turbines (Vestas V150) with a total height of 200 meters and a total output of 155 MW. The wind farm is estimated to produce approximately 500 GWh (million kilowatt-hours) of electricity annually, which corresponds to the use of household electricity in 100,000 villas. Renewable electricity reduces carbon dioxide emissions by around 300,000 tonnes per year, which is as much as 167,000 ordinary gasoline and diesel cars emit in one year.

Construction will commence in the spring and the plant is expected to supply electricity from the first quarter of 2022. The project is expected to create a total of approximately 350 annual jobs and as far as possible local labor is used.Suppliers for the project are Vestas for wind turbines, Kanonaden for roads, foundations and electricity grids, and E.ON for grid connection. 19 land owners are involved in the project.

– We have previously worked with these three suppliers in several wind power plants with very good results. We are very pleased to have this project realized with them and the landowners, says Peter Zachrisson.

Each year, Stena Renewable awards its so-called Vindus bonus of SEK 10,000 per work to the local associations. For Åby-Alebo Wind Park, the Wind Bonus is a total of SEK 360,000 per year.

– The wind bonus can make a big difference for the local associations and we hope for many applications. The money can go to everything from sports clubs to theater companies and associations, says Peter Zachrisson.

The wind farm’s location in southern Sweden provides an important addition of electricity generation in electricity price area 4, where today there is a deficit in electricity generation.
